For dark brown hair to be Mahogony you stated in resposne to Danilisea to “use pure henna.” Which one is “pure henna”, I dont see that on the list? Please advise. Thanks

A few months ago I bleached my hair and after realized that being blond was not what I was looking for, I switched back to dying my hair brown. This left my hair in terrible condition. Not only was it “mushy” and dead feeling, the color was sort of greenish because of the lack of red undertones. After using a protein treatment and several deep conditioners, my hair is doing better (as better as it’s going to get I imagine). However 2 weeks ago I re-dyed my hair with a more reddish-brown color to hopefully cancel out the green tint and it looked great for the first few days. Now it has faded back to its green looking brown and it’s really making me upset. I’m looking to have a deep brown with heavy red undertones. I’m interested in trying henna because I don’t to damage my hair more, but is it just going to fade like the chemical dye?

    • First off all, the more you use the chemical hair dye the more you are frying the protein ion your hair killing it slowly. Stay away from oil treatments, leave in conditioners etc. Our hair dye is healthy hair dye, the more you use it the better you hair will recover. Seeing you have used chemicals so long it might take a few times, but you can use our hair dye as often as you like! You should not be getting a green color from chemical hair dye and this can be a acid reaction from your hair or even medication ( if you are taking any) .
mahogany is great, dark brown with hint of red. I think it will work well for you. If it gets really dark just use “Deep red” or Pure henna (red orange). Pure is the best hair conditioner you will find that is natural. But you have to stop using the chemicals.

  • Chris:

I have very dark brown hair with 75% white/gray. I used chemical dye until I developed a severe allergy. Now I use henna. I have tried other brands but have not been satisfied. I love henna hut. So far, I have used the dark brown and the mahogany. I like the mahogany best since it changes the white to golden red. The dark brown made the white look more periwinkle. I still have 4 packets of dark brown left and do not want to waste them. Is there a color I can add to make the dark brown more red on the white hair? After I am done with all the dark brown packages, should I switch to deep red?

    • Thank you for the compliments. Yes you can add pure henna (natural red) or deep red for a deeper red color. I would use mahogany to do root touch ups to get the color you desire.

  • stephanie:

I really want a dark brown hair with a hint of red. I would prefer my hair to be brown with red rather then red with little brown. I also am scared that the red might be on the purple side. I am a doctor and want to keep my look professional but fun. Does the mahogany come out dark brown with red or is the red color stronger then the brown. Right now my hair is dyed a deep cherry brown but I want to try to stay away from the chemicals. :-)

    • The mahogany is dark brown with a hint of natural red. If you use alcohol on your hair it can turn indigo purple.

But what color are you starting with? On dark brown hair it can be dark.

      • stephanie:

right now its a deep cherry brown its starting to lighten up and my natural hair is starting to come thru…. dark hair doesnt bother me esp since I use to have blk hair but i did want a natural hair color that had a hint of red…

  • Danilesia:

    Hello,
My hair is dark brown right now. I would like to try mahogany. Do you think the hint of red will be noticable or my hair will look even darker than before? Thank you!

    • Mahogany will make it darker. You would need pure henna and that will make mahogany on your hair. You can even mix some with red. If you cant see that then Deep red is the best bet.

  • Amy:

    hello,

My hair’s original color is black but now it is 90 % white/grey, i’ve been using dark auburn color to cover it? Would your mahogany color work for me? And how long will the color last before I have to re-apply it? Thanks

    • Yes it will be fine, you can use it as often as you like so you can make it darker by reapplying it if it is not dark enough. You can also mix it with dark brown. our dyes are permanent and last until your roots grow in. You can do a root touch up as they come in.

  • LaToya:

Hi my hair is dark black, after going over your website is it true that I can’t buy nay color dye to lighten it up?

    • This is very true. You can however add deep red and get beautiful color from it. But if you use light brown on black or dark brown, it will become darker, or you will see no results.

  • bridget:

i have a light brown hair color with a little hint of red in the sun. im looking to dye it a dark red/brown, but i dont want it too dark brown. how dark will this make my hair if my hair is a light/medium brown?

    • Depending on what type of red, I would go with copper top or deep red. Both will make it darker. You can also mix any of our colors together to achieve the color you want. So you can mix brown with it.
Another option is to just use light brown with a small amount of red. The light brown will make your light brown a bit darker with red.

  • shari:

So my hair is a dark brown but in the sunlight looks a little lighter not too light but from the summer sun I wouldn’t consider it a dark brown almost black likee it used to be. I want to go a little darker, very dark brown looks black with a redish tint that is noticeable in certain angles. What color would that be mahogony? And when my hair grows in will I have to continue touching up or will it look natural enough to leave it as be

    • Mahogany can be darker than dark brown or as dark with a hint of red depending on how dark you start with. Remember all of our dyes go darker or equal to, so when you get the desired color you should just be able to touch up your roots. If it is the color you want growing in then of course you would not touch them up.

  • Chelly:

I dye my hair to cover the gray. The last time I dyed my hair a dark brown it stayed on me as black. Now when I dye it a dark auburn color, the dark stays dark and my growing roots get the new color.
I want to start using henna but I am not sure what color to buy and which will work for my hair (that is not BLACK)? I noticed the grays are more noticable if my hair is a dark color.

  • Sally:

    Hi!
I dyed my hair about five weeks ago, well bleached it. I have since dyed it back to brown but the bleach colour is coming through again, and so my hair is a blondey brown colour, if i use the mahogany will it stop the bleach from coming through? I doubt it, but its good to ask! Thank you

    • Hello :)
Mahogany is very dark, It can turn black on people with dark hair, so be careful. It will have a hint of red and should cover the bleached hair. If you have used chemicals a long time it may take a few times, but once you get going just do root touch ups to keep it the same color.
The more you do the entire head the darker it will be. We also have a video on root touch up if you look at the comments on this page there is a link.

  • Adrienne:

I still have mahogany permanent chemical dye in my hair and would love to switch over to natural henna in either a dark brown or mahogany because from all the dyeing it’s getting dry and lifeless. Do I have to wait till all the permanent dye grows out? I’m a natural light coppery brown.

    Thanks!
    Adrienne

    • You do not have to wait until it grows out. You can use it. Remember Mahogany can be very dark, almost black if your hair is already dark. Good part is it will come back to life again :) You can also mix any of the colors we have together. Our dyes are permanent, so once you get the color you want just make sure you do root touch ups to keep the same color. We do do have videos for that. Henna Videos. Thanks and glad to see you are going all natural!

  • claudet:

can I use henna 2 days in a row.applied only to grays just to test.can I apply to rest of hair and also reapply grays

    • Yes you can. You can apply to all not a problem. If you are using burgundy hair dye it will get darker each application. We recommend buying one packet for a full application and then one extra to do root touch ups. Go here to view the video how to do root touch ups.

  • Robin:

What other ingredients are in this dye? I understand it’s all natural, but I’d like to know what’s in it other than henna. Thanks!

  • Chelsea Dawson:

hi with the light brown henna dye or the brown henna dye. which one of those colors are closes to an ashy burnette. and also with henna can i achieve streaks?

    • admin:

      Hello Chelsea :)
More than likely the light brown. You have to remember the color starts with what color you are. It is best to start light and go darker because you cannot go lighter later. You can go equal to or darker, not lighter because we do not have chemicals in our dye. Always do a strand test!

You can do streaks yes, just use a frost kit or hi-light bonnet and pull the strands through. Please let us know if you have more questions.
      Thanks. :)
