I have naturally dishwater blonde hair.
Every time I get my hair died red professionally, it comes out looking brown red/purple, and they say that is the lightest they can get it (because they cannot add stuff that makes it lighter into a red dye). Its currently this cherry cola looking ‘red’ right now. Would henna be able to get it lighter, more fire red? If so, how would I go about this?

Hi there … I have been dying my hair for years using a standard nice n easy box dye but have suddenly developed an allergy to it and similar brands. My hair is dark brown and I dye it to cover the odd grey. My question is can I dye my hair brown with henna without having a strong red colour. I don’t mind red undertones but would just like a walnut colour brown? Thanx

    • Hello Nina, yes this is one of the biggest reasons people come to us. Many are changing earlier now as well. All of our products are 100% natural. While all of our products have “henna” in the, not all of them are 100 % henna. To get browns we mix henna and indigo (also a natural plant form like its cousin henna) to make browns. So if you want brown, just order brown and it will not have a red color after 24-48 hours. If you want to have some red highlights use red or deep red on your dark brown and the lighter ares will be red. Otherwise to keep it all dark brown you can go with brown or dark brown. For a walnut color I would use mahogany. But remember mahogany will be very dark on dark brown. As you can see you can go a lot of different routes. Burgundy also looks great on dark hair :)

Hi I have dark brown hair that has been dyed in the past so the tips are a bronzy red. I am looking for a deep red undertone…what color would you recommend and what level will I be able to get since my natural hair color is so dark? should I try to trim my ends to get a more even color, or will it be ok with the Henna?
    Thanks

    • Not seeing you it is hard to determine.. there is so many shades of brown and red so your idea might not be the same as mine. If you hair is dark brown and you want red under tone, just use a red or deep red. It will make it darker, but you will see the red in the sun. The tips will have to be determined afterwords.

Hi I’m a guy I straighten my hair I would like to know if that changes anything. Also could ur products produce more of an asian hair color? Not full on redhead but tinted sort of.

    • Straightening your hair is not a good thing, it can damage or dry it out. So using our products will help your hair. As far as an Asian color, it all depends with what color you use and what color you start with. So if you have black hair and use a deep red it will give you a “hint” of red.

    Hello,

Suppose I use henna to dye my hair darker than it naturally is, and after a while I decide that I want my hair to be lighter and closer to my natural shade. Would I be able to use henna to achieve a lighter shade after I’ve already used it to make it darker?

    • Our natural hair dyes are permanent. So the only way to get it lighter would be to let it grow out or by using lemon and the sun.

  • We only offer our product online. Moondye.net is our store and is SSL certified.

  • Annie:

I had highlighted hair, the kind you get from a store. It didn’t look great anymore so on a friend’s advice I bleached out all the hair and added a permanent hair dye, deep auburn. The color has pretty much already lightened up to a more blonde copper look and my hair is dried out pretty good. This has all been within the last 3 weeks. Would using natural henna fix the dryness? Would it be safe to use at this time? I read if their is any metals added to the henna it will turn my hair green, is that true? What volor would my hair go if I used all henna without any additives?

    Thank You.

    • Annie:

Also I would like to add I would like to go the kind of red seen in the movie Pretty Woman, the deep firery kind, not the carrot-y bright reds…

      • Ahh yes :) My favorite. For that you can use Deep red or what I call “where is the fire red”?. You can use it as often as you like and it might bleed a little at first. I would recommend once every 6 weeks for 3 months. “If” it gets starts to dark, just do root touch up and you will maintain the same color. Also see our natural hair dye before and after pics.

    • Yes it would be great for your hair! it may take a few times, but stray away from the chemicals for ever! You will notice after the third month your hair will be thicker, shinier and the split ends will go away. Harvest Moon Hair Dye® has 0 chemicals and you can use it asap. here is the link to pure 100% henna Or you can get it at our store.

does Henna streight hair? does Henna treats the hair or only good for change color/??? I cut my hair really short as it was very damaged. I have to die my gray hair on the front, but I don’t want to use any quemicals anymore, now I have natural hair. I started with Henna for the color black, to cover the gray. I want to streight it also, is henna will work on straight my hair????

    • No. Henna will not make your hair straighter. Henna makes your hair softer, thicker and shinier and gives it a natural red color. All do our products do have henna, some more than others. The darker you go the more indigo and less henna.
Say no to Chemicals and Yes to Harvest Moon Hair Dye® 100% chemical free. If you want to straighten you can try adding a bit of tea tree oil/Mint to your shampoo and that might do it.

  • amy:

hi i normally use henna dye from lush for my hair but the red has gona a dark brown and not gingery enough for me! would your henna be safe to go over lushs henna? xx

    • Yes of course. We get a lot of people switching from theirs to ours, however remember natural hair dyes only go equal to or darker. So if you are using a “deep” red it will get darker and darker. If you are using a natural red that should not have been happening ( or pure henna). If you are using pure henna you will get the same red over and over and get the wonderful benefits of henna. Also remember if your hair has gotten darker it will not go lighter. What you will need to do is just touch up your roots as they grow in.

  • Angela:

My hair is naturally a dark blonde color. I dyed my hair very dark brown, almost black a couple months ago. My blonde roots are showing now and my hair is starting to look funny because the rest of my hair is very dark. I tried lightening it up a few days ago but instead it lightened up my roots even more and didn’t seem to lighten the rest of my hair at all. So now my roots are even lighter and my hair looks even more funny. I am frustuated about it and want to fix my hair but don’t know how to go about it.. I would like to try some of Henna’s hair dye but I’ve read that it doesn’t work well with hair that is already colored treated. Is this true?

    • Yes and no. If you have used chemicals for many many years it can take a few months for this to work at its best. If you just used chemicals you are ok to use our hair dye products. I cannot speak for other peoples products.
So what you need to do is treat the incoming roots, not the other part. It is normal your natural roots will grow in.
Also remember natural hair dyes only go equal to or darker that the color you have. So try just touching up the roots and not the rest. Here is a video to show you how with Harvest Moon Hair Dye ® Henna Videos

      • Angela:

Ok, thank you for the advice. I will touch up on my roots and then try out some of your darker Henna hair dye products. I’ve seen the pictures of people’s hair after they dyed it with Henna.. Their hair looks amazing! My hair will be darker but I definitely want some red or gold tones to it! And I think I could do that with Henna. Thanks!

  • We do have samples yes http://www.hennahut.com/henna_samples. Also we have all prices on our store. http://Moondye.net We ship the same day or the next day if you order after 2 pm central time

im wanting to dye my hair with henna. its brown with blonde highlights. how would it turn out? and its very damaged from color. so henna will help it ?

    • admin:

Yes Absolutely. Remember pure henna will give you a red orange color. All of our products have henna in them, however the more henna you use the better. If you are going for a natural red head look, then use henna once a month for 3 months and you should see a major difference. Softer , shinier, fuller hair. With that said if you used pure henna it will create red orange highlights where the blond was.
One thing you can do is do a brown to make it all brown, then go over it with pure henna, it will give it a red tint (wait 5 days after you do the brown to keep it from going black).
Or you can do henna and the brown will stay brown and the light areas will be highlighted red.
If you decide to just go brown you can do so and then use our hair care products to condition your hair.
      Hope that helps!

  • Jan Lafferty:

I would like to try a henna dye on my blonde/apricot 3 mos. old toy poodle with red ears. Would it be safe for her?

    • admin:

Anything that is 3 months old is way to young! She may grow out of it. However we do have a lot of people that use henna and our natural dyes on there dogs and poodles. The trick is having a clean dog first.
Remember it is permanent and last on animals a very very long time so always do a strand test first.

      • Jan Lafferty:

How old should she be and how would or should it be applied?

        • admin:

I would check with a local vet. Our products would certainly be safer than chemicals and poodles obviously have been died for a long time, so she should be fine, but I would think at least 6 months or so, but I would check with a vet to make sure.
