Indigo Hair Dye
(Purchase at bottom of page)
Indigo hair dye like its cousin henna hair dye also comes from a variety of plants (dyer’s knotweed, woad etc). Indigo used with henna will turn hair many shades of brown or jet black. To get jet black it requires a two step process. You can get browns by mixing indigo and henna together (no lemons!), the more indigo you add the darker it will get. Our Indigo is 100% Natural.
There is no chemicals added to our Indigo what so ever. We all are around Indigo on a daily bases. It is in our jeans, our food we eat on a daily bases (food coloring) and many other fabrics. Indigo is a green color and smells like frozen vegetables. Some say frozen peas, some say spinach.
Our natural Indigo hair dye is easily mixed with water. Once mixed with water you will see blue start to appear at the top. The blue is a good sign you have good Indigo. Indigo hair dye is ready instantly. For best results, dye hair with henna first. It works on just about any hair.
If you have chemically died your hair in the last year or are not sure how it will turn out, make sure to do a strand test. Take hair from a brush or cut a small strand out. Indigo is a permanent hair dye and will not wash out! It will fade over time but it acts like a chemical hair dye without the chemicals!
Make sure to discard any leftover indigo powder. If you do not need to use all of the Indigo do not mix all of the Indigo! Sunlight and air can ruin Indigo over time so make sure you seal any leftover Indigo powder in a zip lock bag and store it in a dark location. Our Indigo and Henna is 2 ply air tight sealed for freshness and to keep sunlight out.
It takes up to 24 hours for hair to set in final color. After you remove the Indigo you maybe a bit blue, this is ok! By Morning it should be black and then a gorgeous jet black!
Always make sure to cover floor and clothes when applying henna. You will need a friend to help you.
Let’s go over some details:
• Indigo hair dye or powder is safe
• Indigo is easily mixed with water (comes with directions)
• Our Indigo is chemical free
• Always do a strand test on hair prior to dying hair
• Our Indigo is easily mixed with warm water
• Discard any unused “mixed” Indigo
• Store any unused henna in a air tight bag and store in dark place.
• Indigo works best if henna is applied first and removed
• Indigo takes up to 24 hours to change to final color
• Keep on hour no longer than 2 hours. Usually an hour is fine
• Never assume all Henna and Indigo is mixed the same!
• Always follow instructions that come with henna, not someone else’s! All packets are 100 grams(4oz)

Hi.
I m from Sri lanka.i want by indigo hair dye but its not in sri lanka or any Asian country’s pls….pls….pls….help me.
thanks.
You can purchase our indigo from any country. Just make sure you click on your country at check out.
would using black henna in my hair fade because of leave-in conditioner ? its one of the main products i use in my hair. i have naturally-curly hair, if so what products could i use (i dont like mousse, gels, etc)
Leave in conditioner strips indigo yes over time and will leave you a brassy color. No such thing as black henna, our black kit gives you 100grams of henna and 100grams of indigo. leave in conditioner is not good for your hair regardless. So you can use any of our products and colors. just remember it only goes darker not lighter and it is permanent.
Hi.
I just wanted to say that for you to make a blanket statement that leave in conditioner is not good for anyone’s hair is not a good idea.
Granted, it may not be good for someone who doesn’t want the indigo stripped from their hair after they’ve put it in. But for some hair types, leave in conditioner means the difference between tangled and snarled hair with lots of detangling and combing and brush=out drama and smooth and pain free combing and brushing of the hair after washing. For you to make such a statement, you must either have pin straight hair with absolutely no natural curls that can tangle and twine around each other or very, very loosely waved hair that does not tangle easily (if at all).
Not trying to be mean or oppositional, I just wanted to put that out there for those of us who actually need leave in conditioner to ensure that our hair stays on our heads and doesn’t wind up in little broken pieces all over the floor after we comb and/or brush it.
All in all, this is a very informative site. I appreciate all of the information.
So you use a good rinse out conditioner. De-tangler and leave in conditioners are totally different. Not all are as bad as some and not all are going to strip the indigo. With more than 10 million products it is hard to determine what will do what or how one product will react with another.
Meanwhile, try using a rinse conditioner and brush it in the shower before you get out. This will help tremendously. Leave in conditioner in my opinion and with the thousands of people I talk to is evil for your hair. Of course it helps you get tangles out, alcohol cleans the floor and counter tops, but it does not mean it is good to use. Chemical hair dye dyes your hair flawlessly, but it is not good to put in your hair.
Your hair and assuming you are a woman, is suppose to shed and shed a lot. My wife has super curly hair and it is long on top of that. She uses only our products and was a user of friz eez products prior because of her tangles. Not any more. So if you brush your hair like you are suppose to and take care of it, it will not turn into a rats nest. (no pun in tended)
This is also why we make such gentle shampoo. It leaves your natural oils. Leave in conditioners over time strip everything, resulting in a dryer hair, resulting in the need for more leave in conditioner. We talk and work with thousands of people so yep I do know what I am talking about. Just like any drug or alcohol, the more you take the more you need to get the same effect that use to take less. Your hair is the same way. Take care of it naturally and it will not be so difficult to manage.
I have a couple of questions on the indigo dye. I’ve heard that leave in conditioners can strip the indigo from your hair. Is it all leave in conditioners, or is it a certain thing in it? If you use just the indigo, will it turn your hair a blue-ish color? and how exactly do you get black with henna dye?
Thanks for the help
Some people can get away with just indigo and it will turn black, some it turns blue/green, it all depends on your protein/acids in your hair. Add a small amount of henna and it will turn brown. Any leave in conditioner will strip indigo. It does not go as deep as henna on the hair shaft. If you use it by itself it will not be as permanent either, usually washing out over a week. All of our colors are premixed, so they are permanent.
Thank you for answering
But I’m a bit confused on the last part. Pre-mixed as in I don’t need to buy a different color with the indigo? I already ordered, but I just ordered the indigo form this page, I would like to know if i need to order another color with it.
If you are doing black you will need henna as well. See the black video http://www.hennahut.com/henna_videos. Or you can just order black. it will come with 100 grams of henna and 100 grams of indigo. Directions are included.
I have been using henna and indigo for some years and the while the henna colours my grey roots very well i can’t seem to get the indigo into the roots properly to dye them brown (i’m using a mix of henna and indigo) – they just stay orange from the henna so i have dark brown hair but orange roots. I haven’t tried your indigo – not sure if the problem is to do with indigo generally because of it’s consistency or the type of indigo i’ve used but any advice would be gratefully received!
There is many reasons why this would be happening. 1. it can be bad indigo. 2. leave in conditioners strip indigo. 3. Your pores are just to small for the “spores” of the indigo.
Ours is super fresh, so I would try it and if it does not work , then you can try adding a small amount of salt and/or apple vinegar. That will help it bind.
Hi
My beard is turning gray, as well as my hair. That is, some strands are white, which makes it appear gray on the whole. I am interested in 100% natural dye and don’t want anything chemical.
Do you ship to south africa? Can I have an idea of the price?
If I color with henna and indigo, what should be the frequency of the dyeing? After how much time does the color need to be be redone?
Yes we do ship to S. Africa and when you check out you need to select that option and it will give you a price at that time.
I would suggest you watch these two videos and it will explain it better than me telling you.
http://www.hennahut.com/henna_videos the first video and the one on the beard dye.
JUST USE WATER and NOT distilled water!
sir,
I had read about indigo hair dye. since I had tried with Loreal, Revlon, and other powder hair dyes which are scalp sensitive and give me a rash, however I had no reaction to the strand test. please suggest me a good hair dye to contain my problem.
thank you
regards.
I would suggest our hair dye. Harvest Moon All Natural Hair Dye. This is why most come to use because they have had a bad reaction to chemical hair dye.
Do you have products here in the philippines, where can we buy your products?
We do not, but we do shop there.
Hi, my natural hair color is dark (filipino hair kinda ). For a long time, i have colored my hair light like almost blondish. A few years ago (3yrs) I colored it black just so I can have the asian dark colored hair again. Time to time i color my hair dark ( loreal black feria to be specific) I used this product so i can achieve the blackest color i want. Recently, I noticed my hair is fading turning like brownish color especially when it directed to the light and it is dull looking too. Is henna and indigo will give me that blackest color i want without fading? and do you guys ship in US? I thank you in advance!
Yes and it will condition your hair. Here is a a black hair dye video to give you much much more information. The more you sue it the darker it gets and you can use it as often as you like. It is permanent.
Hi, my hair is naturally soft black at the top half and the bottom half (chemically dyed) is still dark but has almost a hint of lighter brown to it. I am craving jet black hair and was wondering what i should use? I want my soft black..to be darker..so do i just go ahead with the darkest color you have? I’ve also read that sometimes the indigo won’t stick and you’ll get reddish streaks and sometimes the color doesn’t last and will fade in a few days. What are the advantages of using henna and indigo? I am a teenager, 15 with asian hair. thank you so much!
The best way to tell you about black is to watch the video I made a few weeks ago on our all natural black hair dye. It should not have any red in it. it is a two step process so it will be red at first and then after the indigo is applied it will turn black.
Some people are not dyable and then they get the red and the indigo does not work. Ours is super fresh and the best quality indigo you will ever find.
The advantages is (as it states all over the web site) it is chemical free and henna is good for your hair., It iwll make it thicker, stronger and it rids split ends so you can grow it longer.
Once you get it black you can just mix it 60/40 (indigo/henna) and then with water and apply for 1 hour and it should be black. You can also do this to touch up the roots as they grow in.
Hope that helps,
Rod
thank you for your reply
i was wondering what you meant by “once you get it black etc.” is this to seal in the color so it will last? and does the color ever fade?
Most people it does not fade, but it all depends on what you put in your hair or have put in your hair over the years. Leave n conditioners in my opinion are bad for your hair.
eventually you roots will grow out and you will need to do it again. after you have done your hair and when it comes time to do it again you can mix henna and indigo and do a one step.
If that for some reason does not work you will need to do a two step application. Here is a video to watch on black hair dye
Is your black one of the blackest dye there is? That is what Im looking for. I think that the dark black is very silky, sexy, and elegant. Also is the henna required to get this look?
So sorry, we were not getting notified on comments for some reason. We usually answer promptly. I agree with you. I Died my hair with natural black hair dye and I love it! here is a video with me doing black hair dye The more you do it the blacker it will get. one you do it the first time, mix the henna and indigo together (60 Indigo/40% henna) JUST water and apply.
Give it 48 hours and if it is not dark enough, do it again. Your hair will love it!

Yes we do ship to Bangladesh. Use our black, it comes with 100% pure henna and indigo. I had a lady that had the same problem as you, just 3 days ago and she sent me a beautiful picture with no copper and a thank you. Just pick your country at check out.
Thank you!
I want to purchase black dye. Please tell me how to make a payment and receive the product.
We are sold out at the moment. We should have some in a week or so. We will start taking pre-orders next week. Est time of arrival is August 23rd.
I have just recently found out that i am extremely allergic to chemical hair dye when dying my hair brown. It is the shop bought dye, e.g. guarnier. If i use any of your henna hair dye, is there ANY chance of getting an allergic reaction from it? I intend to dye it with the indigo to get the black result. Can you guarantee 100 percent that there will be no reaction? Thank you.
95% percent of the people that use our products use them for the exact same reason as you. It is a common chemical called PPD you and everyone else is allergic to. There is always a chance of you being allergic to “ANYthing”. Some area allergic to shell fish, some grass, some honey and some even the sun. There is a 99% chance that you will not be allergic to our dye, however we always ask people to do a strand test. You can apply a small amount to inside of your arm closest to your elbow.
We have helped many still color there hair after they ended up in the hospital from using chemical hair dye and I am sure it will work for you. Make sure you sign up for our news letter for discounts and promotions. http://hennahut.com/subscribe
My roots are 50% white/red, more in some areas, less in others. Would I do better to try the dark brown, or should I try indigo for a short period over the red? The rest of my hair is almost black due to a so called “natural” hair color that turned my hair purple, blue, black when it was labeled a 5N. In the sun my roots definitely stand out as very reddish against the very dark rest of my hair. Also, are you out of the dark brown? I can’t seem to get any in my cart though it says “in stock” on the web page. Thank you for your help.
Kathy
We do have dark brown in stock yes. Make sure your pop up blocker is turned off, if that does not work go to our flag ship site at http://hennahut.com/dark_brown_hair_dye.
Make sure you DO NOT leave it on for an hour. I cannot speak for the other brand you used, however Harvest Moon brown’s Have indigo and henna in it. So if you leave it on for over an hour
the indigo stops releasing the dye and the henna keeps on releasing the dye. Also sometimes it will turn your gray hair green or red or even blueish purple and then turn brown over night.
If your hair turns purple after that it usually means alcohol is involved. Shampoos, colognes, even liqueur will do it. Do your whole head and then just touch up your roots as needed.
Cover your gray the natural way! With Harvest Moon Hair Dye. Thank you!
Also you can try some indigo, but if it has been more than a few days it might not work as well.
I would do the dark brown and it will cover your gray (or white roots). Just remember NOT MORE THAN 1 HOUR!
Where can I purchase indigo. I live in Makati City, Philippines.
http://hennahut.com/indigo . Make sure you get henna if you are going to do black.
See black for that. http://hennahut.com/hair_dye
