Henna hair dye has been around longer than the turn of the century. It is a safe alternative to chemical hair dyes for men and women on all areas that hair grows. All of our henna is ammonia, peroxide and PPD free. It is 100% Natural and most people that are allergic to regular hair dyes have no effect with ours. We hear endless stories of people having allergic reactions to chemical hair dye.
How does Henna Hair Dye or (Harvest Moon Hair Dye) Work?
Henna and all of our hair dye actually bonds to the protein of the hair, rather than kill it and alter the color. This a great way to condition your hair as it blocks UV rays, makes hair thicker, shinier and helps rid split ends.
It almost works like wax does to a car. The only down fall is you cannot go blond. You can use Henna hair dye as often as you like, however if you are not doing a red or black, then you will want to do root touch up as your roots natural color grows back in. If you do your whole head with light brown over and over it will get darker and darker. You can mix any of the colors together to get any color. Our hair dye may stain the skin, but it will ONLY be for a few hours maybe over night. Your face naturally produces oil so it will not last on the face. You can use it to dye your eyebrows, sideburns, facial hair and head. It is a safe effective alternative to chemicals. You can cover with a shower cap, cut a hole in the top to let it breath and never use a dryer. Let it dry naturally. Only mix with water unless you are using pure henna or reds. Reds and pure henna you can mix Shelly oil and a fresh squeezed lemon to bring out reds.
Henna and fresh indigo have been used since the Early Dynastic Period era 4500 years ago.

Henna hair dye only goes equal to or darker than…
Henna hair dye will only go equal or darker to the color you have, so if you are looking for blond, sorry this is not for you. Henna Hair dye will leave your hair so soft and shiny you will fall in love the first time. You only need to leave the henna hair dye on for an hour or less. Henna hair dye is a permanent hair dye that will grow out and fade over time.
If you have chemically died or altered your hair, used hair relaxer or other products of similar chemicals you will need to wait 1-2 weeks before using Harvest Moon. You can strand test your hair if you think it has been long enough. During a strand test you will notice it the henna bonds with the proteins of your hair.
We recommend no longer than one hour for any of our colors. In some cases you may need up to 3 hours, but is not recommended for any colors other than reds or black. Sometimes the hair will bleed up to a week if you have used chemicals for a long period of time and some times it will bleed if your hair has never been died. It all depends on your hair protein and pores in your hair. The more you use all natural hair dye the less it will bleed and the more you will love it! It will not stain your clothes and should wash out of most fabrics.
Chemical Hair dyes
Chemical hair dyes alters the color of your hair, Henna hair dye “covers” the hair strand by bonding to the proteins of your hair. This is why you must wait to use henna hair dye on hair that has been chemically treated. Chemicals kill the proteins in your hair and they need to regenerate.
Henna Hair dye is Safe
Henna hair dye is safe, inexpensive, reliable and flat out good for your hair. The first time you use it is a bit awkward, but once you get used to it you will never return to chemical hair dye! Your hair will thank you for it and people will notice the difference.

My hair is natural (I do not use chemical relaxers to straighten it)and very thick and coily. About 2 months ago I dyed it using a chemical dye. I want to try henna to give my hair a burgundy undertone; is it safe to use henna since all the chemical dye has not grown out. Also, will the henna cover the chemically dyed color?
Good for you! Your hair and your environment will thank you. Yes you are fine. Our products have no chemicals so it is safe at any time
It should cover it, however some times it might take a second application. Remember it takes 48 hours to see final results some times.
I have dark brown hair. I want to add natural looking red highlights in my hair without darkening my hair. I don’t want the red to be too orange. I can’t tell if the copper top, deep red, or burgundy would work better.
Our products only go darker or equal to.
Copper top will make light hair turn red/orange. burgundy will make it wine red. Red red will make it red, but also make it darker. You will only see the red in the sun if you have dark brown hair.
Our hair dye is also permanent, so be sure of what you want.
Hi, I have naturally dark brown hair that has been lightened by the sun. I noticed it was stated that henna gives a naturally reddish tint, red doesn’t go with my skin tone nor does black so I was wondering if there was a way to mix colors in such a way to minimize the red without going too dark?
You can mix any of our colors. not a problem. It all will depend on how dark you want to go. Copper top might be a good one to start with. however depending on how light your hair is, will make a difference of how red it will be.
Mahogany would be very dark, like a dark brown but with a hint of red.
You can also try a light brown with a few table spoons of henna. it is hard until you get the color you want, then do root touch ups. Always do strand test as well.
Do you need to add lemon to “copper top” when mixing?
No you do not. Copper top ( Also know as Copper brown) Is fresh enough that you do not need lemon. It will not hurt if you do use it either. If you want more red to pull through, use a lemon.
Hi, I have dark brown almost black hair. I used to use a hair dye that gave a soft purple tint in the sun (it was a mahognay brown), but it has been discontinued. I was looking into henna for a while now and stumbled onto this site. Will the burgandy turn my hair bright red? Or will it just give it a tone of red? I am not really sure where to start?
If you want a “purple ” tint, I would use burgundy. It will give you a purple wine red. See our before and after pics to get a better Idea. Mahogany will make it even darker with a hint of red.
Hi, I have dark almost black hair, and I’m thinking about using henna because I’m going natural and heard it is healthy- my hair is really curly and wavy- I’ve heard that henna will loosen the curl pattern of you hair- is that true? Also, will it make my hair bright red? I only want a dark brownish-red color
Natural hair dye only goes darker or equal to the color you are. So if you wnt to keep it dark with some red use mahogany. Do root touch ups when you reach the color you want. My wife has curly hair and it has not affected her and she has been using it for 4 years.
I have a few highlights in my hair, but would like to go to my natural brawn. How will that look with the highlights?
Thanks!
It will make them brown as well. They might look green or even red at first but they will turn brown over night. Some times it might take a ful 48 hours to get to the final color, however usually it is overnight or by the next night.
Is henna good to make hair blonde? is it good and healthy for the hair…? witch company sell the best henna products for her and how can i buy it?
NO, you can not achieve a blonde color with our henna products. Chemicals are required to lighten the hair color to blonde. Of course Harvest Moon is the best brand of henna products around, you can purchase it at any of their online retailers.
My original hair color is black, but i started to have some grey hair in between my black hair. It looks very obvious. is there a henna dye which can dye my grey hair black or dark brown?
Yes, you can use either our dark brown or black hair dye to cover those pesky greys. The black is our only two step process to give you a jet black color. The dark brown is a very popular product that also covers greys in one easy step.
Can I color my hair with a chemical dye shortly after if I don’t like the effects of the henna dye?
Yes. I would give it a few days, maybe even a week. However if you do a strand test you should be able to tell the outcome before doing your entire head.
You can do the under layer or a small area on the tips.
You can also clean a brush and harvest fresh hair and apply a small amount. leave it on for only one hour. Rinse and give it 48 hours to get to final color.
I noticed you said that henna gives a natural redish color, but i have naturally red hair, not a bright red but more of a darker strawberry blond, and i am looking to go towards a more brunette/auburn color, i’ve used temporary dyes before and usually just use a dark light brown and it works, but i wanted to try the henna dye, any suggestions?
Ummmmmmm. Tricky question! Dark light brown is 2 colors. Mahogany is a dark brown with red highlights, however it maybe to dark for you. If light brown has worked in the past I would start there. ORRR use the copper brown. (also called copper top) it will certainly darken it up a bit and leave you with some auburn. Naturals are tricky, but once you get it down just touch up your roots to keep it the same.
You say darker OR equal to. Well if I have medium blonde hair can I use a henna color in medium blonde or do they only make them dark? Thanks…
If you want to darken up I would say light brown. You cannot go lighter.
Okay, I’ve been reading up on this quite a lot and I noticed it said you could only go darker. So for instance, I have very dark brown hair with golden blonde highlights, does this mean I could not go red with Henna? I understand it would depend on the shade, but I was thinking a very deep red auburn.
Equal to OR darker than. Henna gives a natural red hair color, so on your blond highlights it would show quite nice. On your darker hair it will give it natural tints that you can see in the sun. So in your case Copper brown ( also known as Harvest Moon® Copper Top)
Should give you the color you are looking for. With Natural Hair dyes ( that are truly 100% natural like ours) you have to some times play with the colors to see what is best for you. Once you get set then do root touch ups.
We have videos and before and after pictures on http://hennahut.com. Hope that helps
I would like to switch from chemical dye to henna. I have been using chemical red hair dye on my hair. If I wait 4-6 weeks, I will have light brown roots. Will I be able to get even color if I apply henna all over? And, how long should I leave it on for that kind of color job?
Thanks,
Holly
You can mix any of our colors together, so you may have to play with it to get the color you desire. However you do not have to wait. If your red red, just get the red and touch up your roots as they come in and it should match up. If it is a dark red use deep red or use the red that is closest to the red you are using. Here is a video to show you how to do root touch up, it is super simple. http://www.hennahut.com/henna_videos
hello,
I have dyed my hair with black henna while i was in India, at the time I did not know that henna does not fade like other hair dyes and has to be grown out. I would like to know if there is some form of henna removal as I would like to have my hair lightened back to its natral colour and not have black hair any more.
No such thing as black henna. Most hair dyes do have to be grown out and the only way to get them to fade is by the sun or time. Also remember natural hair dyes only go equal to or darker than, not lighter.
I am not sure what your natural hair color is, but not a whole lot you can do.
