How does Henna Hair Dye or (Harvest Moon Hair Dye) Work?

Henna and all of our hair dye actually bonds to the protein of the hair, rather than kill it and alter the color. This a great way to condition your hair as it blocks UV rays, makes hair thicker, shinier and helps rid split ends.
It almost works like wax does to a car. The only down fall is you cannot go blond.  You can use Henna hair dye as often as you like, however if you are not doing a red or black, then you will want to do root touch up as your roots natural color grows back in. If you do your whole head with light brown over and over it will get darker and darker. You can mix any of the colors together to get any color. Our hair dye may stain the skin, but it will ONLY be for a few hours maybe over night. Your face naturally produces oil so it will not last on the face.  You can use it to dye your eyebrows, sideburns, facial hair and head. It is a safe effective alternative to chemicals. You can cover with a shower cap, cut a hole in the top to let it breath and never use a dryer. Let it dry naturally. Only mix with water unless you are using pure henna or reds. Reds and pure henna you can mix Shelly oil and a fresh squeezed lemon to bring out reds.
Henna and fresh indigo have been used since the Early Dynastic Period era 4500 years ago.

Harvest Moon Hair Dye is permanent

It works on 97% of our customers and out of the 3% half do not follow proper directions.  Some people are just not dye-able at all. Always do a strand test when using any hair products.

Chemical hair dye is not good for your hair, it damages hair and over time it can become brittle and even cause hair loss. Harvest Moon Hair Dye® is the opposite, it conditions the hair and leaves it soft shiny and manageable. Our customers are so very important to us we test our henna on ourselves to insure we have the best quality. We offer a 100% Money back guarantee and we know you will love our henna hair dye and henna products.

Henna hair dye only goes equal to or darker than…

Henna hair dye will only go equal or darker to the color you have, so if you are looking for blond, sorry this is not for you. Henna Hair dye will leave your hair so soft and shiny you will fall in love the first time. You only need to leave the henna hair dye on for an hour or less. Henna hair dye is a permanent hair dye that will grow out and fade over time.

If you have chemically died or altered your hair, used hair relaxer or other products of similar chemicals you will need to wait 1-2 weeks before using Harvest Moon. You can strand test your hair if you think it has been long enough. During a strand test you will notice it the henna bonds with the proteins of your hair.

We recommend no longer than one hour for any of our colors. In some cases you may need up to 3 hours, but is not recommended for any colors other than reds or black. Sometimes the hair will bleed up to a week if you have used chemicals for a long period of time and some times it will bleed if your hair has never been died. It all depends on your hair protein and pores in your hair. The more you use all natural hair dye the less it will bleed and the more you will love it! It will not stain your clothes and should wash out of most fabrics.

Chemical Hair dyes

Chemical hair dyes alters the color of your hair, Henna hair dye “covers” the hair strand by bonding to the proteins of your hair. This is why you must wait to use henna hair dye on hair that has been chemically treated. Chemicals kill the proteins in your hair and they need to regenerate.

Henna Hair dye is Safe

Henna hair dye is safe, inexpensive, reliable and flat out good for your hair. The first time you use it is a bit awkward, but once you get used to it you will never return to chemical hair dye! Your hair will thank you for it and people will notice the difference.

I have dirty blond hair, and I thought it would be fun to dye my hair. When you say permanent how long do you mean?? Like three months? If so will my natural hair color come back??

  • Alexandria:

So, just one question, after applying your henna, how many days do I need to wait before shampoo? Thank you for your time.

Hi..I purchased your henna Liquid hair dye(auburn color)at a health store i Oshawa,Ontario on Monday,April18th of this year.I applied this dye on Tuesday,April 19th .Almost immediately i broke out in a red burnt like rash and had itchy scalp and skin.I had to go to the emergency dept at my local hospital because my eyes and face were swelling up like crazy. The doctor at the emergency room gave me cortisone cream, for the affected areas and for my scalp and pills to take.I have used your henna powder dye before with none of these bad reactions…I am not impressed.i have had to take 4 days off from my job because my skin is so swollen and itchy and I look like I am deformed…what are you going to do about this??I cant afford to miss work as I am the only bread winner in my home.Whats happening here?I want a resolution to this problem ASAP…Thanks…Yours Truly Ms Lois Searle-Tang…

    • Sorry not our stuff. We do not sell to any stores and we are online only. Also none of our hair dye is premixed and it comes in a packet not a tube.

    • Also you are not in our system. The problem you had with these peoples product was it had PPD in it and you had a chemical reaction. Our dyes have 0 PPD and is 100% Vegan. So you surely have us confused. So you need to read the label on the tube and find there contact number and website.

I’ve been reading the directions and questions and I have a few myself. I saw that your supposed to let the Henna air dry, so you don’t wash it out, just let it dry? Also can you blow dry, flat iron, or style however you normally would after it’s all done?

    • ou leave it on your head for 1 hour, let it dry naturally. No flat irons. Flat irons are bad for your hair! Regardless of hair dye, it can break and damage your hair over the years. Style as normal, careful of products.

I Am a natural red head and love it! My agent wants me to dye my hair, he thinks it would be great for auditions. I am terrified to ruin my natural hair color! So I thought henna would be a great alternative. What color do you recommend for going from red head to Burnette ?

  • Mazin579:

I want to do Henna again. I’ve only gone a week since I last did it. Could I dye my hair with Henna again tomorrow?

  • Stacy:

My hair is chocolate brown and I was thinking of using some type of red. Will it show up well? Also how long would I be able to see the red in my hair?

  • lance:

I have very thin (thinning) and fine and short dirty blonde hair . I would really like to get as white as possible. Also would like it thicker looking…advice on the product…thanks

  • randomgirl:

I had my hair dyed dark brown by a professional a while ago, and I was thinking about dying parts of my hair wtth Henna, but I don’t know if it will show over the dark brown (which is fading some but not a lot) and I also don’t know how my hair being chemically dyed would effect the results of using henna. How long should I wait before using henna on my hair and how would it being previously chemically dyed effect the color it turns out?

  • Sonnie:

My hair is naturally dark brown and I wanted to dye it Auburn . Is that possible using henna ?

    • Y0u can use red or pure red orange (pure henna) to give it a natural auburn color.
If you hair s to dark the orange may not show up to much. Deep red and red will show up, but you will see it mainly in the sun.

  • Sandra:

I haven’t used henna in a long time, as my hairdresser started using natural hair colors, i.e., peroxide free colors on my hair. I am African American, with natural “dreads” which are dark brown to black. I’d like my hair to be reddish brown, mostly brown with red highlights. What color henna do you recommend for me. I’m confused with the indigo you keep mentioning. Also, if I scratch my scalp prior, will this cause burning on application? Thanks!

    • I would recommend deep red. No it should not bother the scratch, but depends on how you scratch it and how deep, which makes me wonder why would you scratch it?

  • Elizabeth:

I am getting away from the salon (it’s been 3 months since I’ve gone) and my natural hair has lots of gray coming in. Will this cover my gray?

  • Rachel:

Hi, so a while back like late decemberish early january ish i highlighted my hair with clairol perfect 10 permanent hair dye. 4 weeks ago i dyed all my hair with clairol natural instincts ammonia free demi-permanent dye (lasts through 28 shampoos). Is it bad for me to dye my hair with henna at this point?

    • chemicals bad, henna good. However it has been 4 weeks so you should be OK. The more you use it the better it will work. Just keep in mind if it is a darker color, like browns, mahogany, blacks it will get darker and darker if you do your who head.
Make sure you get the application kit as it comes with the root touch up kit.
if you are just doing henna, reds or dark black you can do the whole head every month.

  • Ceire:

my hair is naturally auburn, but more red than brown. i want to henna dye my hair and was wondering how light/dark brown henna turns out in red hair?? my hair is the same shade of red as Bonnie Wright from the harry potter movies.
    cpold really use your help…

    • Light brown may leave a bit of red, dark brown will be dark brown and brown will be brown. More than likely light brown you will not see any red. You can mix any of the colors together, so get one of each until you get a feel. Remember you cannot go lighter… so start light and work your way up. Strand test ;)
